Code Blue For Childcare: Sign the Petition, Spread the Word
Code Blue for childcare is a website that is against the Harper cuts in childcare and is working to help rally public support for childcare. The Website includes links to articles about the Harper cuts for childcare and why they are bad for the country---and for women. It also includes updates on actions being taken in support of childcare and links to articles on public childcare in Canada. One article "We Could Have our Childcare Cake and Eat it too" I particularly liked, and is how I found the website. It has appeared in the Globe and Mail and Rabble. It is a good read to get informed on the topic. The intro to their website and explanation of their choice of name is as follows:

CODE BLUE means "medical emergency". Canadian politicians need to know that saving child care is an urgent need. Make your voice heard before Parliament resumes on April 3.
There is also a petition in support of public childcare. It has almost 20,000 signatures right now...But the larger the petition is the more effective it will be. I ask those that support public childcare to put information about this petition on their website. We need to spread information about it. The Canadian blogosphere has been successful in the past in raising awareness about issues like these and about progressive petitions like these. Adding your name to the petition took me less than five minutes. This petition is one I think should be well publicized.
Canadian politicians need to know that saving child care is an urgent need. Please make your voice heard before Parliament resumes on April 3. (note I'm endorsing the site, I don't run it and I don't make decisions for it...I wouldn't want to take credit for someone else's time and work, although I think they've done a terrific job!)P
